Track Frameset
Track Frameset
The new Filament track frame has been developed for high performance at the velodrome.
It has a number of new and distinguishing features.
Materials
The frame has an unusual construction which includes a structural PMI (polymethacrylimide) foam core. This supports the carbon tube outer skin increasing the stiffness and durability of the frame when compared to a hollow tube. The intention is to make a high performance frame that can withstand the rigours of racing, travelling and even crashing. We want them to last a long time.
Fork
The fork has wider spacing between the blades to reduce aerodynamic drag. As the spokes pass between the fork blades the air displaced by the spokes is squeezed against the fork legs. Moving the blades further apart reduces this interference. The top spokes of the wheel (near the rim) are travelling forwards at almost double the bike speed so any aero improvements in this area are valuable. The fork blade cross section measures 80mm by 13mm to reduce aero drag while being strong and stiff.
Bottom bracket
BB386 EVO. This format spaces the bearings further apart than BB30/PF30 to extend the bearing life. The internal diameter is 46mm and the shell width is 86.5mm. BB cups are available to fit many crank types in the BB386 EVO shell.
A complete carbon tube is used for press fit to ensure the bearings are held concentric and parallel. The laminate is balanced and symmetrical and undergoes a controlled cure cycle on a precision mandrel mould to ensure circularity (roundness). It has a thick laminate wall for stiffness to hold the bearings rigidly when riding. A precision GO/NOGO gauge is used to check each press fit frame. We all like a quiet bike.
If you use a traditional track crank the frame can be built with a titanium BSA threaded shell as an alternative.
Dropouts
New dropouts have been made for this frame. They have integral adjusters to set the correct chain tension and to centre the rear wheel. The slot is longer for a wider range of gear options without having to add or remove chain links.
The dropouts are stainless steel and have brass adjuster wheels.
Seat post
We used a 27.2mm round seat post for a few reasons:
The round shape can be clamped reliably with low torque on the screw.
This is a future-proof standard. You will always be able to find a replacement 27.2mm round post.
There is minimal aero penalty. The rider’s thighs moving quickly on either side really stir up the airflow around a seatpost.
No paint
There is no paint or lacquer on this frame. The surface is polished epoxy which is more resistant to scratches and chipping.
Geometry
The sizes are custom tailored to each rider to provide a sustainable aerodynamic position.
We'll get in touch once we receive your order to plan your frame details.
If you choose the custom sizing option please complete the form on the fitting page, if you need any help just give us a call or an email.
Frameset price comprises frame, fork, headset and seat collar.
